Damage to gut wall maybe a cause of autism. D'Eufemia et al,Acta Paediatr, 85(9):1076-9, 1996.

Details

Damage to the gut wall of 21 autistic children was measured using an intestinal permeability test. Altered intestinal permeability was found in 43% of the autistic patients but in none of 40 non-autistic children. The authors suggest that greater intestinal permeability may result in absorption of undigested proteins and provide a possible cause for autism.
